Dear Friend

Dear friend, Do not be afraid of the journey, For both ally and enemy you will find. Ally to guide, Enemy to beguile. Gelid the road will get, Sultry the sun will be, And darkness will wield such fear in your heart. But be not be dismayed Dear Friend. For the winds will be fair, The seas will follow, And less rough the paths will get. In the night, The moon will beam your way, The stars will give you hope. At your travel's end, The bow of the rain awaits, Its smile to sooth your soul, Its chest filled with your treasure. So do not be afraid, My Dear Friend.

God is As Simple

I was born and raised Catholic and I love being Catholic but through the years I have come to learn that the whole idea of religion is overrated and that churches limit us. I think to understand the Creator, people sat down and developed ideas to try to explain who God is and how to worship him. Don't get me wrong, I respect people and their way of worship. I just don't like it when some of these people criticize others or think they have a one way ticket to heaven because their way of worshipping God is superior to others.  Some might label me a bad Catholic christian but in all honesty, I don't think understanding the whole complex doctrine and knowing the number of garments a priest dons for mass matters. Then why do I still go for mass you might ask or why have I not changed churches? I go because there is where I find peace. There is something ethereal and majestic about cathedrals especially when I find myself alone on some random day. As crazy as it may soun...

The Single Hood

So one of my friends was telling me how now that I am single I should take some alone time and find out what was similar or what I liked about each guy I ever dated. You know, things like what exactly drew me to them. Maybe after some reflection I would get my Eureka or Aha moment on the kind of men I'm attracted to. From my rumination however, there was nothing common among them. They were all so different in their own way. So either I have this innate and boundless capacity to love despite people's differences or I don't know what I want. I am yet to arrive to a conclusion dear friend. My break-ups and single seasons have been a gateway to enlightenment on how to get over heartaches or pain and I might as well share them. • Feel the pain.   I learnt that the only way to get over pain is feeling it. Go through all those emotions. Let it take its course through your spirit and body. Don't keep them in. If you don't go through them, all that negati...

Simple Irony

It was May. Clouds devoured the blue sky, And thunder sounded from a distance, Rain was coming. It poured from the heavens, Quenching the thirsty soil, Spicing the air with earth's scent. The droplets felt heavy, And so cold against my chocolate skin, I didn't mind, It soothed my burning emotions. It was eerily quiet for a rainy day, No birds sweetly chirping, Everything was out of normal. Humans were standing still, Arms tucked in, Their faces sheets of anger. Not a single voice was heard, Just the sound of rain, Hammering the ground, Splashing the drops in uneven paddles, Hypnotizing every thing it touched. In the haze of showers, Breaking the ghostly silence, Was a baby strapped on his mother's back, Unconcerned about the greyness, Smiling to God knows what. His smile was so loud, Against the spooky background. He stretched out his finger, Pointed to Nimbus up there, And tried to catch those tears. He caught one, Looked at me, And smiled some more. Such a sunny smil...

The Road Premier

I was travelling from Premier to Kericho town on one gloomy day in January. For such short journeys along the Kericho-Bomet highway, I prefer matatus from Kisii to those from Bomet. With Kisii's, two things will happen; either my temper will get tested or my short journey will be quiet. It is mostly the latter than the former but I'd rather have that than boarding a car from Bomet where a passenger wants to make small talk about clans. The touts also like 'selling people' and charging extra. I like it when my journeys are quiet. Just me overlooking the lush tea plantations. Anyway, I was in this Kisii matatu and usually in Kisii matatus the driver and the conductor are always chatting. This time however, the conductor was quiet and he kept on counting the cash while he was talking with a lady seated behind the driver. This lady had a really cute child with big eyes. They were talking in Kisii of course so I didn't understand what they were talking about...

Unrequited- A Poem

You told me I was beautiful, That my smile lit you up, That my eyes were always bright, That you have always wanted me, That I was everything you needed. I said No, Not because I did not like you. But because I knew; And I still know, The thin line between the truth and a lie. And the truth was, I saw the way you looked at her; And I knew you would never love me, The way you loved her.

21st Century Twenties

The freaking hellish twenties of century 21. Pheewwh!! I know I'm not the only one feeling this especially about the mid 20's. It is such a mental time. It is a time when you have to remind yourself each day that everything will be okay because the world is not what you thought. It is a time when you learn that peace of mind is actually something people struggle to find. It is a time when you cannot seem to understand life or God. When you will roll through all emotions at once. You will be sad then happy, high then low. It is a time when you learn that "I- don't -know- what -I- feel" is also an emotion by itself. When relationships will end without drama but you still hurt as hell, probably even more than if it had ended with drama.  It is a time when you will unlearn the things you learnt. When people will move to upper niches in their lives and you will feel left behind. People will be getting married and having children and you will feel lik...
